Pericytes and glial cells are accessory cells of neurovascular networks, which have been reported to participate in scar formation after tissue injury. A pericyte extends along the long axis of a capillary, sending processes around its circumference. Pericytes lie within the basal lamina of the capillary. Pericytes help to regulate blood flow through capillaries and participate in blood vessel repair after injury. 2021-03-29 Pericytes are specialized mesodermal cells which line the blood vessels.

Dettmeyer, in Encyclopedia of Forensic and Legal Medicine (Second Edition), 2016 Introduction. Forensic histopathology as a specialist field in its own right within forensic medicine has undergone an expansion in terms of its required application and, by adopting and applying modern methods of investigation, has gained in diagnostic importance. This is particularly true of the field of This contributed book discusses the recent updates and novel functions of pericytes. This book is helpful for cell biology graduate students, postdoctorants as well as researchers that work on the pericyte field and want to be updated in the multitude of roles of pericytes in health and disease.

Pericytes (Peri- around) are cells that lie close to the endothelial cells of blood capillaries and small venules into which the capillaries drain. They are a potential source of new fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells, and help to repair damage.
